Get Involved with VANI


We Aim to build and sustain responsible and credible membership base covering the whole country.

Who can get Involved?
VANI has two broad membership categories with further sub categorisations into:

   A. Voting Members
   B. Non-Voting Members

The sub-categorization of Members and Associates is as under:

  A. Voting Members: They shall reserve the right to participate in the governance of VANI and elect the governing board members (in line with VANI’s By-Laws). These shall include:

       a) Indian Voluntary Development Organisations (Indian VDOs):

  • Voluntary development organisations including women and youth organisations, registered international NGOs and Foundations (excluding religious and political organisations, corporations [local and foreign], government agencies, funding agencies, family trusts and international organisations);
  • Organisations that regularly publish/print annual and audit reports;
  • Legally registered and democratically functioning organisations working for the development;
  • Individuals with a track record in voluntary action and currently not working with any voluntary organisations (maximum 15% of the total existing membership base).


       These shall be further classified into following four sub-categories:   

Category Turn Over (INR) in Previous Financial Year
Category 1 Less than 1 Crore
Category 2 01 Crore – 05 Crore
Category 3 05 Crore – 20 Crore
Category 4 Over 20 Crore


        b) Association
        c) Network
        d) Individual

  B. Non-Voting Members:

  While the associates shall have access to all the services provided by VANI to its members, they shall NOT be entitled to   articipate  in governance activities of VANI. They shall NOT be entitled to vote and elect the governing board of VANI, during the   Annual General Meeting. The category shall include:

         a) Liaison Offices of any foreign NGO and other specific entities
         b) CSR Units
         c) International NGOs (INGOs) not registered in India
         d) Multilateral Organisations
         e) Academic, Research and Policy Analysis Institutions
          f) Social Movements/Thematic Groups



A. The fee structure for Voting Members:

Category 4 Over 20 Cr. 10,000

B. The fee structure for Non-Voting Members:

For Voting Members

            i. Organisations:

  • Application Form (includes the Guiding Principles document)
  • Society Registration Certificate
  • Last 3-year Annual Reports
  • Last 3-year Audited Statement of Accounts
  • Application Fee


         ii. Individuals:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Application fee


For Non-Voting members:

  • Application form
  • Annual Report
  • Application fee



This applies to all types of memberships (Voting and Non-Voting members).


Step 1

  • For the Voting Member category, form has to be filled out and the following documents produced: annual report, audited statements, society registration certificate and organisation’s constitution.
  • Individual members need to submit their curriculum vitae, application form and prescribed application fee.
  • For the Non-Voting category, the applicant needs to submit application form, annual report and application fee
  • All the above-mentioned, documents are to be attached with the form or sent to the VANI Secretariat. The membership fee can be submitted online or via a demand draft as applicable payable to VANI.

Kindly note that incomplete applications will not be processed.


Step 2

  • Upon submission of all requirements, the maximum time taken by VANI to decide on the membership of any organisation/individual will be 15 days.
  • Approval of the Membership by a Sub Committee


Step 3

  • Individual and institutional applicants will be informed of the status of their application in writing. If an applicant does not receive any response within 1 months from the Secretariat, they are requested to inform VANI immediately.
