Voluntary organisations in
Madya Pradesh expressed the need to have a
state level network in a meeting last 5th March 2005 at Samarthan Office in Bhopal. In
that gathering participated in by 46
representatives of NGOs, a small working
committee was constituted which met and
discussed on the role, structure, principles
of proposed state level network. The working
committee has 12 members representing the
various regions of Madhya Pradesh.

After a series of meetings the
working committee members have finalised the Niymavali and Margdarshi Sidhant of the
proposed network. It was then shared with other
partners and in a meeting last 12th and
13th September, the document was
discussed and approved. It was also decided to
name the network as MADHYA VAN. The members
recommended that MADHYA VAN be registered as a
society. To initiate the process, a working
committee of 13 members have been elected by the
participants.
Updates
MADHYAVAN, the
state level network developed by VANI, organised a
workshop on ‘Right to Information’ on 23 March in
Bhopal in which 70 delegates including NGOs, media
and government participated. They decided to:

with ‘Wada Na Todo Campaign’;

issue of right to information;

Encourage
CSOs to join the network

Use VANI
website to disseminate information about the
network
A core group
meeting was also held to plan on a state level
seminar on livelihood security state policies,
private action and civil society participation. In
addition, a quarterly newsletter ‘MADHYAVAN has
also been published.

Foreign Contribution and Management
Control Bill, 2005
NGOs in the state have reviewed and discussed at
length the implications of the bill and decided to
oppose it.
Wada Na
Todo Abhiyan
WADA NA TODO ABHIYAN is the
expressed need of Indian civil society leaders to
put pressure on the government and hold them
accountable for non fulfilment of their
commitments as expressed in the Common Minimum
Programme, the Tenth Five Year Plan, Millennium
Development Goals and the promises made by the
present state government during the recent held
elections. Srijan Lokhit Samiti and Madhya VAN
have taken the lead in Madhya Pradesh to campaign
around these issues. The campaign is going on in
18 remote and poorest districts of MP.
Activities:
Collaborating with and
strengthening different networks in the state;

Relationship building with politicians,
Government officials and media persons;

Firming up the membership and
organisation of the network as well as working
on its registration;

Improving information
dissemination through setting up a resource
centre and a newsletter.
Past Events:
Madhya VAN along with Samarthan &
Srijan Lokhit Samiti has organised a two day state
level consultation on ‘Strengthening Local Self
Governance for Attaining Development Goals in
MP.’ The consultation has been organised in
Bhopal on 20th-21st December
2005 inviting around 300 elected representatives
of PRIs and 100 selected civil society
organizations to share their experiences in
delivery of basic development goals and
bottlenecks faced by them to achieve these goals
as grassroots institutions of governance. The
consultation was attended by political leaders,
senior government officials of state,
representatives of organizations like UNICEF, DFID,
PACS, media person, critics and eminent social
worker.
